Why SVG, not PNG?
Tattoo ink on skin resolves to about 0.3 mm. A PNG design at 72 dpi will pixelate when scaled to a realistic 5 cm wrist tattoo. SVG vectors have no fixed resolution — your artist can scale the file to 2 cm or 20 cm with identical edge crispness. Every professional studio accepts SVG.
We provide PNG too, at 4× the preview resolution. Useful if your artist wants a stencil printout or prefers raster references. Both files are watermark-free and royalty-free for personal use.
Layout choices and what they're for
- Horizontal — the standard bar layout. Works on wrists, forearms, ankles. Easiest to read from a photo. Good default for longer phrases.
- Vertical — reads top-to-bottom. Fits alongside the spine, down the ribs, or along the outside of an arm. Feels more like a sentence than a barcode.
- Curved — an arc, usually under a collarbone, over a shoulder, or around an ankle. The longer the phrase, the flatter the arc.
Weight choices
- Fine — suited to single needles, fine-line studios, wrists < 3 cm wide.
- Medium — the default. Works at 3–8 cm. Balanced legibility and delicacy.
- Bold — larger placements (back of the shoulder, thigh). Also better for dark skin tones where fine-line tattoos can fade quickly.
What to tell your artist
- Bring the SVG on a USB stick or in Apple Mail. Most studios have Illustrator or Inkscape; both open SVG directly.
- Specify the final size in millimetres. The preview here isn't scaled for your body — your artist will resize based on placement.
- Decide: solid fill or outline only? Our SVG exports as solid shapes. For an outline-only variant, your artist can set fill-none stroke-on in one click.
- Ask about placement pain levels. Ribs and the inside of the wrist sting more than forearms and outer biceps. A morse line does not take long; placement comfort matters more than the design complexity.
Phrases people most commonly tattoo in morse
- “I love you” — 11 characters, the single most-tattooed morse phrase.
- A child's name in full — usually 4–7 letters, fits the wrist cleanly.
- An anniversary or birthday as
DDMMYY— six digits, looks elegant vertically. - Single words with private meaning: always, forever, home, brave,family.
- Grandparent's last phrase, a wedding vow, a lyric — anything the wearer wants to carry as a hidden message.

How do I design a morse code tattoo online?

Will my tattoo artist accept an SVG file?
Virtually every studio accepts SVG — it's the format design files are created in by default. If you're uncertain, bring the PNG we also export as a backup. Both files are in the download.
Does morse code tattoo pain differ from regular tattoos?
The design is just dots and lines, which tattoo quickly — faster than solid-fill shapes of the same size. Pain is more a function of placement (ribs, spine, inner wrist are sensitive) than of the morse pattern itself.
